Standard Title Description
1 Usable Water Students clean a dirty water sample by using various filtration methods.
2 Water Testing Students test for the presence of ions in tap water.  Use a reference solution for positive test and control (distilled water) for negative test.
3 Resources:  Chemical Reactions w/Metals Students use 3 pennies to to perform different chemical processes.  The copper in the penny combines with zinc to make brass.
4 Metal/Nonmetal Students test 7 unknown elements to determine if the sample is a metalloid, non-metal or metal. Tests: malleability, conductivity & chemical reactivity.
5 Producing Copper Students produce copper from copper sulfate solution by means of electrolysis.
6 Viscosity Students determine density and viscosity on 6 petroleum-based materials and water.
8 Combustion Students determine the heat of combustion of a candle (paraffin wax) by heating up water.
7 Hydrocarbons - Esters Students produce esters (artificial fragrances) from alcohol and acids.
9 Petrochemicals            (should be Polymers/ Synthetics) Students make nylon610 cord from mixing two chemicals.
10 Vitamins Students determine vitamin C content of various beverages. Perform titration.
11 Iron in Foods Students determine iron content of food samples. Perform serial dilution.
12 Radioactivity Students expose nature print paper by using radiation from various sources.
13 Enzymes Students test how well enzymes (pepsin, amylase) work on albumin and starch and responses under varied conditions (room temp., refrigerated & buffered pH of 4, 7 ,10)
14 Electrochemistry Build and test different electrochemical batteries to determine which will generate the most voltage.
