Description |
|
1 |
Weather: Moisture in the Atmosphere |
use a sling psychrometer to measure and track relative humidity (5 days),
measure dew point using metal can |
|
2 |
Weather: Air Pressure & the Coriolis Effect |
learn about Coriolis effect, build a barometer and see the effects of air
pressure, push a straw into a potato to see the strength of air pressure. |
|
3 |
Weather: Isobars & Fronts |
learn how temperature differences create air flow, label isobars on a map,
observe cold front meeting a warm front (wave tank) |
|
4 |
Sedimentary Rocks I |
learn about oil shale and light rock on fire, study sedimentary rock samples
and perform practical |
|
5 |
Sedimentary Rocks II |
mix chemicals to form calcium carbonate (limestone) and test precipitate and
limestone with acid, make sedimentary rock using glue and sediment |
|
6 |
Igneous Rocks I |
study igneous rock samples and perform practical |
|
7 |
Metamorphic Rocks I |
study metamorphic rock samples and perform practical |
|
8 |
Oceans II |
Students make salt solutions of varying densities and compare haw fast they
flow down a tube of water. Students observe how temperature differences
create current by using a container w/ dyed ice and water. |
|
9 |
Faults |
Students learn fault patterns by coloring paper cutouts and placing them
around a 2x4 wood block to create 3 dimensional image. |
|
10 |
Erosion & Soil |
Students use clay, loam & sand to study permeability and water retention.
Students shake rocks in bottle to see erosion. |
|
11 |
Erosion |
Students use stereogram glasses to view contours. Use long narrow trough
and vary angle to study the rate of water flow. |
|
12 |
Glaciers |
Use "glurch" and incline plane to study ice flow. Use wire and mass to cut
through ice and then it re-freezes at cut. Observe how weight and color
affects ice melting. |
|
13 |
Fossils I |
Students see how fossils are made by using marble in sediment bottle. Use
cooking oil and candle to make a carbon impression of a leaf. Make plaster
of Paris impression of a shell. |
|
14 |
Lenses |
Students use optical bench and study lenses and then build a cardboard
telescope. |
