Review as it appeared in Practical Homeschooling by Mary Pride and Christopher Thorne A knock at the door, You step outside to be greeted by the friendly UPS guy delivering a large box. What's inside? A month's supply of scientific experiments, instructional videos, and lab equipment, all delivered directly to your home. The new Science Labs-in-a-Box program, offering a convenient "pizza-delivery" approach to science instruction, is one of the most innovative options for homeschoolers introduced in recent years. And it is a terrific option for those of you who are serious about science. As the name implies, every month a box arrives at your house, including all the lab apparatus and ingredients needed for school quality science - eight monthly boxes containing more than 30 labs. Each box has enough materials for two children to do the experiments. When you finish the experiments in one box, you simply arrange to have that box returned and order the next box in the series. In effect, you're renting [thousands of dollars] worth of equipment and getting all of the materials prepackaged for you, ready to use. We've received many of these boxes and we can tell you the equipment and materials are all first class. All necessary materials are included. And I mean all- even down to the roll of tape necessary to repackage the box! For example, the chemistry boxes include a periodic table chart, goggles and lab smock...,textbook and teacher's guide, filter paper, various containers (beaker, flask, graduated cylinder, etc.), a broad assortment of chemicals and substances and much more. All the equipment you need for in depth hands-on chemistry. Each lab experiment also includes a Biblical perspective [in teacher's manual only], highlighting a principle from the lab and applying it to the Christian life. Rating = 4.5 hearts out of 5 |
