Deluxe Title Description
Minerals Students study mineral collection and use Epsom salt solution to grow crystals.
Sedimentary Rocks Students study sedimentary rock collection, make sedimentary rock (glue, sediment) and use sediment mixture in a bottle to view layering of sediment.
Igneous Rocks Students study igneous rocks, make soda can volcano, melt sulfur to see crystal formation,  Also included -baking brownies to observe how cooling affects grain size.
Metamorphic Rocks Students study metamorphic rocks, mix vinegar and baking soda to learn "metamorphosis", squeeze clay embedded with washers to simulate metamorphic rock formation.
Soil Students view soil under magnifying lens, test soil pH (acid/base), measure time required and amount of water running through soil (clay, sand, loam), run distilled water through soil and evaporate looking for chemical residue.
Weathering & Erosion Students test vinegar/HCl with litmus paper and use acids (vinegar, HCl) to dissolve limestone.  Students place 8 limestone rocks in plastic bottle and shake to illustrate mechanical weathering.
Diastrophism:  The Process of Deformation of the Earth's Crust to form Major Relief Features Students use seismograph to illustrate tremors and learn about the Richter scale.  Make cornstarch goo to simulate the Earth's mantle Make 3-D representation of topographic map from foam.
Fossils Students preserve fly using nail polish and petrify second fly in sand and water.  Build dinosaur kingdom kit
Ground Water Students make artesian well in drawer divider, simulate cave formation using sugar cubes and see effects of hard water in making soap bubbles.
Oceans Students measure salt and make salt water.  They evaporate water and weigh remaining salt.  Make boat out of aluminum foil.  See that egg floats in salt water, but not fresh water.
Weather:  Heat & Temperature Students learn how alcohol thermometer works, heat up bimetal wand and make a cloud in a beaker.
Atoms Students place marbles, ,B.B.'s and salt in graduated cylinder to view how small things fill in empty spaces, mix alcohol and water to show same thing.  Burn flash paper-sublimation.
Elements Students burn sugar to make carbon. Perform electrolysis of water to make hydrogen and oxygen.
Chemical Change Students mix hydrochloric acid with marble chips to make carbonic acid, which is sent through bromothymol blue indicator. Student formulate and test hypothesis of order in which materials (plastic, paper, metal wood, cloth, match) will burn.
Mixtures Dissolve Styrofoam cup in acetone to teach moral lesson. Students separate 3 mixtures.  Use alcohol lamp to sublimate sulfur from mixture.
Science Demonstrations Teacher performs 4 demonstrations to teach moral lessons - no student lab.
