Description |
|
1 |
Solutions & Suspensions |
Students learn about solutions & suspensions (sugar water & instant milk).
Remove soil from water using filter paper and alum. Students make glurch. |
|
2 |
Acids & Bases |
Teacher uses phenolphthalein, ammonia & vinegar to turn water red and then
clear. Use purple cabbage water (and litmus paper) to test acids/bases.
Use vinegar to dissolve magnesium. |
|
3 |
Oxygen |
Students learn about dissolvo and flash paper. Learn about hypothesis,
control, control & variable. Use three test tubes and steel wool to test
conditions that affect rate of rust formation. |
|
4 |
Measurement |
Students learn about measurement and measure mass, length, volume & time.
Learn about the units for each in the metric system |
|
5 |
Light |
Students learn about radiant barriers and how light transmits heat. Learn
light basics: opaque, transparent, translucent, reflection, refraction,
diffraction. |
|
6 |
Sound |
Students use tuning and water to see vibrations and connect up intercom to
see electricity transmit sound. |
|
7 |
Heat |
Students learn heat is atoms moving faster, hold match under paper cup with
water to see water absorbs heat and experiment with liquids and gases to see
that cool contracts and hot expands. |
|
8 |
Water |
Students build a rain gauge, float pin on water (surface tension) and study
viscosity by having marble races. |
|
9 |
Air |
Students build hot air balloon from tissue paper and make it fly with a hair
dryer. Place paper on the front of carts to learn about air resistance.
Build a balsa wood glider. Make a margarine tub hovercraft using hair dryer. |
|
10 |
Tobacco |
Students use smoking machine to study negative effects of smoking. Subject
earth worms to tobacco water. |
|
11 |
Plants I |
Students use cotton in petri dish to study the germination rate of seeds
subjected to alcohol and tobacco water (from lab 26). |
|
12 |
Plants II |
Students place grape in water and see it swell up. Use straw, clay bottle
and leaf to see air move through leaf. Test tree leaves for the presence of
starch. Plant a bean seed to see which direction plant grows. Simulate
cactus leaf wit wax paper and paper towel. |
|
13 |
Genetics |
Students raise tadpole into a frog. Use cards to learn about XY chromosomes.
Plant a garlic clove to learn monocot/dicot plants. |
|
14 |
Digestion |
Color and assemble paper model of digestive system. Use iodine to test for
presence of starch in foods. |
|
15 |
Magnetism |
Use magnet and various materials to test what items are attracted to
magnets. Use iron filings to see magnetic field. Test strength of different
types of magnets. |
|
16 |
Electricity |
Students heat up nichrome wire to cut Styrofoam cup in half. Connect
circuit on circuit board to turn on light bulb. |
